Remnants of a Supernova (2020)
![An acrylic painting of a supernova, showing deep purples, flame-like oranges/reds, and aqua greens and blues. Many star dot the deep black background.](http://robinthompson.art/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/thompson_robin_remnants_of_a_supernova_2020_wmk-scaled-1-1024x755.jpg)
Acrylic on canvas, 40x30cm.
Based off the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A, which had temperatures in excess of 10 million degrees C! Three telescopes – Hubble, Spitzer and Chandra – were used to create a composite image depicting all the matter at wildly different temperatures, in beautiful distinct colours.
Cassiopeia A is also the brightest extrasolar radio source at frequencies above 1Gz, and occurs about 11 thousand light years away within our Milky Way.
