Remnants of a Supernova (2020)

An acrylic painting of a supernova, showing deep purples, flame-like oranges/reds, and aqua greens and blues. Many star dot the deep black background.

Acrylic on canvas, 40x30cm.

Based off the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A, which had temperatures in excess of 10 million degrees C! Three telescopes – Hubble, Spitzer and Chandra – were used to create a composite image depicting all the matter at wildly different temperatures, in beautiful distinct colours.

Cassiopeia A is also the brightest extrasolar radio source at frequencies above 1Gz, and occurs about 11 thousand light years away within our Milky Way.
